I had the idea of using the Akai Force as a portable auto sampling station without the need for a pc then just export the 'standard' S1000 format. I don't want to invest into a format that will not supported by anything in the future. Not much more is needed as a common starting point for importing and exporting of a sound library. A common language for all other formats to be able to import so a common starting point can be had.think: but it is a stable language for importing and exporting sample data as is REX for cut up loops. shudders at the thought of wallpapering a house through the letterbox again. The S1000 format isn't used for loading into the old S1000. As soon as they update then that format is unusable. if you're using multiple sampling platforms, its pretty damn useful.Īs for Akai format samples being 30 years old I agree, but lets say we chose Kontakt as the format. Newer hardware and software go miles towards more easily managing those samples. Akai gave us convenience in interoperability. There's something to be said for doing things either way. Sure, everybody can import WAV files now, but how easy is it to move a substantial sample library investment in 2019 from one system to another? What if NI went belly-up in six months and nobody picked up the Kontakt format? The people who would end up winners in that situation are the ones who figure out how to do a proper 100% translate and import into their platform.Īnd don't get me wrong - i LOVE that I can just dump samples on a SD card and load them up and start banging away. While hardware and plugins have gotten great at sample management within their own UI and environment, interoperability seems to be at an all-time low. Having said that however, I will say, its a damn shame. Akai format had its day, but its 30 years old at this point.
